Laura Lorenz, PhD, MA, MEd  Biography
Cofounder, Educator, Evaluator, Researcher, Course Developer


Laura Lorenz, PhD, MEd is an EDUCATOR,  EVALUATOR, RESEARCHER, and  COURSE DEVELOPER.  Laura discovered Photovoice in 2000 while exploring arts-based approaches to youth programming and civic engagement for a Master’s of Education in Instructional Design. Having previously worked as a photojournalist in Africa and Asia, the script was flipped in 2001 when Laura designed a Photovoice civic engagement project that put cameras in the hands of teenage girls. That award-winning project led to a Photovoice facilitator’s guide, as well as Photovoice projects with such diverse participants as South African youth, adults with traumatic brain injury, and individuals living with unspecified anxiety disorder. Since 2008, Laura has led Photovoice trainings for medical schools, professional societies, community funding organizations, and government agencies, and offered Photovoice professional development courses for clinicians, researchers, educators, students, and managers. In 2018, she launched an online professional development course “Talking with Pictures: Photovoice,” through the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Outreach College and Center on Disability Studies. Laura received her PhD in social policy (health policy/health services research) from Brandeis University (2008) and a Master of Education (Instructional Design/Adult Education) from the University of Massachusetts Boston (2001). Stephanie Lloyd, MA  Biography
Educator, Evaluator, Researcher, Course Developer

Stephanie Lloyd, MA is a program evaluator and social science researcher. She has spent her career working collaboratively with organizations and groups to use data in order to address social and economic inequalities and strengthen communities. Stephanie has led numerous large-scale evaluation, research, and strategic planning projects for social sector clients in the areas of: education, health, economic opportunity, and national service, among others.

She is a member of the American Evaluation Association and regularly volunteers with community organizations through HandsOn Bay Area. Stephanie holds a Master of Education in Applied Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is an AmeriCorps alumna, and provided 2 years of education and community development service in Washington, DC schools and neighborhoods through City Year.

Her areas of expertise include: program evaluation, survey methodology, Photovoice, data visualization, community and youth development, and volunteering. She has been collaborating with PhotovoiceWorldwide and teaching Photovoice for evaluation since 2018.

Russ 'Doc' Dingley  Biography
Cofounder, Chief Technologist

Russ ‘Doc’ Dingley is co-founder, along with Laura, of PhotovoiceWorldwide LLC. His driving motivation for this work is to inspire innovative thinking, simplified access, and a voice, in this case for including the voices of patients, professionals, and underserved groups in health and healthcare. In a technology career that has spanned over 40 years, Russ worked in system design, manufacturing, quality control, network design and infrastructure setup, security, and maintenance.

In the healthcare field, he developed systems, infrastructure, as well as vender and interdepartmental collaborative relationships using existing and pioneering technologies for clinical laboratories, clinics, and hospitals. He was a Principal Technologies Advisor for US Government agencies and healthcare companies, and a Design Engineer and Principal Test Engineer for Honeywell, Bull Worldwide Information Systems, and Incoterm Corp. He was also a co-business developer, technologist, and engineer for Bull Electronics Contract Mfg, and Board Advisor for Vanquish Labs Anti-Spam Software.

Russ plays piano, keyboards, ukulele, and dabbles in studio mixed recording. He regularly crafts parody's of current events and hit songs. He also writes songs for his beloved beagle mix, Lady (Lady Von Petneeder) that she wags her tail (in percussion time to, it's a riot. As PhotovoiceWorldwide’s Technologist he is responsible for creating and maintaining website, forum platforms, and managing other technology/social media related capabilities. Olivia Iovino, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C  Biography
Clinical Advisor

To understand lived experience with rehabilitation care, Olivia first used Photovoice while studying for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marymount. Around that time, Laura was engaged as a guest speaker in Olivia’s Community Health course. Now an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Olivia is interested in the use of Photovoice to improve patient care and the workplace environment. She contributes to articles on the Photovoice method and its use in a wide range of health, healthcare, and other arenas. She also advises Photovoice Worldwide faculty on the use of Photovoice in the clinical setting. Olivia has worked in healthcare for over ten years. She holds an MSN in Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Miami, a BSN from Marymount University, and an AB in humanities from Harvard. At Miami she joined the Beta Tau chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau international nursing honor’s society. Olivia has worked in family practice and retail health, and also spent four years as a bedside RN for oncology patients in teaching and research hospitals.

Diana Weggler, BA  Biography
Web Content Editor, Proofreader

Diana joined the Photovoice Worldwide team in 2020 as a content editor and proofreader. Involved in writing for and editing print publications since childhood, she has made word-smithing her professional career for more than 20 years. In addition, she spent 10 years as the senior speechwriter for the president of a small, liberal arts university in New England. Educated at Cornell University, Diana holds a bachelor of arts in English, and her passion for the English language manifests in epic games of Scrabble with family and friends.

 When she is not knitting, she volunteers on the Board of the Vermont nonprofit The Veterans’ Place, Inc., which provides transitional housing and programs for homeless Veterans. The mother of four grown children, Diana lives in Central Vermont with her husband of nearly 40 years, and their Karelian Bear Dog, Luna.

Rose Weggler, BS  Biography

Social Media Marketing Manage

When she’s not boosting posts, gaining followers, and keeping our projects on task, Rose manages Maine Island Lodge. She is also the board president of the Maine Association of Sea Kayak Guides and Instructors (MASKGI). Rose holds a BS from the University of Vermont majoring in Recreation Management and Tourism, with a minor in Business Administration. Over the years her love for the outdoors has brought her on journeys leading bike tours in central California, kayak guiding in coastal Maine, and Ski Instructing in the Rockies of Colorado.

 Rose now enjoys said activities in her leisure time, while putting her social and business expertise to good use with us. Rose says: "I am excited to work with PhotovoiceWorldwide and use social media to make a positive difference for people using Photovoice around the globe."

Erica Belli   Biography
 Educator, Course Developer

Erica is an educator and photographer based in Italy, Erica studied at the Italian Institute of Photography and is currently an attending faculty member of the Psychology Department at G. Marconi University. She facilitates Photovoice projects in Northern Italy and focuses on photo-creative approaches to therapy.



Maria Piaewonsky, EdD, MEd, BS  Biography
 Educator, Researcher, Course Developer

Maria is a program manager for the Education and Transition team at the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI), a research and training institute housed within the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD) at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her work is primarily focused on professional development and research that promotes transition and postsecondary education leadership and effective practices for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Maria works with policymakers, practitioners, families and students on a number of state and local initiatives. She has been using Photovoice since 2001 with young adults with intellectual disabilities transitioning to school or work, with people who are homeless, and with national and state agencies seeking to evaluate their programs for underserved populations.

Domenic Screnci, EdD  Biography

Trained as a medical photographer, Dominic worked in Boston Area Hospitals before getting his EdD at Boston University (BU). He has taught instructional design for public health professionals and communications at BU, and visual literacy in the instructional design program at UMass Boston, applying his academic acumen to learning how to read photographs like text, through their content and structural elements. Still an avid photographer, he was Laura’s faculty mentor for her first photovoice project in 2001. Domenic, who holds a master’s degree in educational media and technology and a doctorate in curriculum and teaching, has 30+ years of experience in the field of educational technology and bio-communications. Still teaching in the College of Communication and advising on the Health Communication program he helped to create, he is currently retired from his roles as Senior Advisor for Academic and Emerging Technology in the Digital Learning and Innovation unit and his workforce development efforts for the office of Information Services and Technology at BU.

Carson Peters,  Intern.  Biography

Carson graduated from Grinnell College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology (Global Health). Currently in her second year of the Master of Public Health Program at the University of Iowa, she is passionate about global public health and advocacy. Her participation in an honors’ global health program took her to Brazil, India, and South Africa to conduct infectious disease research on TB, HIV/AIDS, and Zika. Carson’s experiences abroad inspired her to conduct her senior thesis on women’s cancer as a health disparity in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Her research experiences include working at the National Institute of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Harvard Global Health Institute, and the Harvard School of Public Health. She has also worked on Capitol Hill for the Honorable Congressman John Lewis, related to her public policy and advocacy interests.

Carson says: "I am excited to work at Photovoice Worldwide this summer because of the organization’s meaningful and innovative impact on global public health communities, which will allow me to further develop my passion of global health and advocacy."

Sanem Cerit,  Intern.  Biography

Sanem is a second-year psychology student at Leiden University, Netherlands, Sanem is a member of the Honors College and recently completed a research internship on the topic of emotions in children with autism. A regular volunteer with nonprofits, Sanem also takes part in community projects and internships related to health, psychology, and sociology. Her qualifications include: MS Office, attention to detail, time management, verbal and written communication skills, and a strong interest in Photovoice.

Sanem met Laura and was introduced to Photovoice during the 2015 Global Youth Summit on the Future of Medicine at Brandeis University. She is collaborating with Laura to gain more knowledge about Photovoice, conduct a literature review on the use of Photovoice and other participatory visual methods in health and disability research, and facilitate Photovoice with a young man living with cancer for her internship with PhotovoiceWorldwide 2019-2020 .
